Venom is an alien symbiote and supervillain created by writers David Michelinie and Mike Zeck, with artist Todd McFarlane providing its now-signature look, for Marvel Comics; the black costume first appeared worn by Spider-Man in The Amazing Spider-Man #252 (1984), and Venom debuted as a separate villain, bonded to Eddie Brock, in The Amazing Spider-Man #300, cover-dated May 1988. The symbiote grants its host Spider-Man-like powers along with monstrous strength and a taste for menace, and has since starred in its own comic book series and been adapted across films, television series, and games, including Tom Hardy's Venom film trilogy beginning in 2018.
