Wasp (Janet van Dyne) is a superhero created by writer Stan Lee and artist/co-plotter Ernie Hart for Marvel Comics, introduced in Tales to Astonish #44, cover-dated June 1963. Genetically altered by scientist Hank Pym (Ant-Man) after her father's murder, she gained the ability to shrink, fly, and fire bio-electric "stings," becoming Pym's crime-fighting partner and a founding member of the Avengers.
