The X-Men are a team of mutant superheroes created by writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby for Marvel Comics, first appearing in The X-Men #1 in September 1963. Led by Professor Charles Xavier from his mansion, which doubles as a school for training young mutants, the team defends a world that fears and hates them, its roster and adversaries (chief among them Xavier's former friend Magneto) recurring across a long-running comic book line and numerous films, television series, and games, including the Fox-produced X-Men film series that began in 2000.
