Bambi

Walt Disney's fifth animated feature, released by RKO Radio Pictures in August 1942 and loosely based on Felix Salten's 1923 novel, follows a white-tailed fawn, the young prince of the forest, from his birth through his friendships with the rabbit Thumper and the skunk Flower and his courtship of Faline to his succession of his father, the Great Prince. David Hand supervised the direction; the film earned three Academy Award nominations and entered the National Film Registry in 2011. (IMDb)
