Desire is a 1936 romantic crime comedy directed by Frank Borzage and produced with Ernst Lubitsch, adapted from the play Die schönen Tage von Aranjuez. Marlene Dietrich plays Madeleine de Beaupré, a jewel thief who steals a string of pearls from a Parisian jeweler and uses an unsuspecting American engineer, Tom Bradley, played by Gary Cooper, to smuggle them across the Spanish border while the two fall for each other despite her scheme.
