Michael Douglas plays William Foster, an unemployed defence worker who abandons his car in a Los Angeles traffic jam and crosses the city on foot, increasingly violently, to reach his daughter's birthday, with a retiring police officer (Robert Duvall) on his trail. Worn by Michael Douglas as William Foster. At the Whammy Burger counter, about 42 minutes in, Foster is told that breakfast stopped at 11:30 and looks at his wrist; the film cuts to an insert that fills the frame with his watch, its hands a few minutes past the half hour. It is a steel Lorus quartz with a white dial, black Arabic numerals and dark hands on an expanding steel bracelet, the dial signed with the Lorus emblem above "Water Resistant" and "Quartz". The insert shows the wrist alone; the shots on either side of it are Foster at the counter, and the same expanding bracelet is on Douglas's left wrist when he phones home from the street.
