Fantasia

Walt Disney Productions' animated musical anthology, produced under Walt Disney and Ben Sharpsteen with story direction by Joe Grant and Dick Huemer, pairing eight segments of animation with classical pieces conducted by Leopold Stokowski. Its best-known segment, The Sorcerer's Apprentice, casts Mickey Mouse as an overwhelmed sorcerer's apprentice whose enchanted broomstick and pail multiply out of control; music critic Deems Taylor introduces each segment in live action. Released November 13, 1940, it debuted Fantasound, a pioneering multi-channel sound system developed with RCA. Citizen has released three Disney-licensed watches themed on the Sorcerer's Apprentice segment: a 2023 Citizen Collection model and a 2025 mechanical pair marking the film's 85th anniversary.
