Seiko announced this watch in June 2001 alongside the film's release, styled after the "Wrist Halo," a fictional wrist-mounted hologram device Aki Ross wears on screen to display data and detect the alien Phantoms. Seiko's own announcement states the real watch "will mirror the wrist holo only in appearance," adding four real timing modes and a calendar instead of the film prop's fictional functions.
