Joe Johnston's adventure, from Chris Van Allsburg's picture book, turns on a board game that swallows young Alan Parrish in 1969 and releases him 26 years later as Robin Williams, a grown man dressed in leaves and hides, when Judy (Kirsten Dunst) and Peter Shepherd (Bradley Pierce) roll the dice in his old house; Bonnie Hunt plays Sarah Whittle and Jonathan Hyde both Alan's father and the hunter Van Pelt. Worn by Robin Williams as Alan Parrish. Profiles in History's Hollywood Auction 36, archived by Heritage Auctions, sold the film's hero game board with a group of Alan Parrish's props as lot 937, among them "a charm necklace adorned with a large tooth, nickel, rusty Timex watch, and silver pocket knife handle". The lot's heading lists "tooth necklace, watch" as separate items, so the essay leaves open whether the Timex hangs from the cord with the tooth or sold beside it; on either reading it belongs to the man who went into the game as a boy in 1969, and its rust is the production's shorthand for 26 years in the jungle. A Timex suits that boy: the cheap, durable American brand a New Hampshire twelve-year-old of the 1960s would have worn. The essay names no model. (Heritage Auctions lot 937)
