Written and directed by Kenji Nakamura, with Kōji Yamamoto co-writing, this animated supernatural film continues the Mononoke franchise begun by the 2007 television series, with Hiroshi Kamiya returning to voice the nameless, sword-and-medicine-box-carrying exorcist known only as the Medicine Seller. Released in Japanese theaters on 26 July 2024 as the first installment of a planned trilogy, it follows the Medicine Seller into the Ōoku, the shogunate's inner chambers, to unravel the resentment behind a mononoke given form by a cursed paper umbrella.
