Walt Disney's second animated feature, released by RKO Radio Pictures on February 23, 1940, adapts Carlo Collodi's 1883 novel: the woodcarver Geppetto's puppet is brought to life by the Blue Fairy and, with Jiminy Cricket appointed as his conscience, must prove himself "brave, truthful, and unselfish" to become a real boy, meeting the temptations and consequences of wrongdoing on the way. Cliff Edwards voices Jiminy and Dickie Jones the puppet; the film won the Academy Awards for original score and for "When You Wish Upon a Star". (IMDb)
