Pluto (series)

The dog character in The Picnic (1930), his second screen appearance, where he is Minnie Mouse's pet "Rover" months before being named Pluto; used here to represent the franchise the Fossil partnership is licensed to generally.

Pluto is Walt Disney and animator Norm Ferguson's cartoon dog, Mickey Mouse's pet, who first appeared as a nameless bloodhound in the Mickey Mouse short The Chain Gang (1930). He returned that year as Minnie Mouse's dog "Rover" in The Picnic and was named Pluto in his third appearance, The Moose Hunt (1931). He appeared in 89 short films between 1930 and 1953, including his own series from 1937 and the Academy Award winner Lend a Paw (1941), and unlike Disney's other lead characters he is not dressed or drawn as a human. Fossil sold this $190 special-edition 42 mm quartz watch (SE1116) from late 2023 among the five Mickey and Friends character watches of its Disney 100th-anniversary collection, its white satin dial carrying a vintage print of Pluto on a brown leather strap.
