Jake Blues, just released from prison, puts his old band back together to save the Catholic home where he and his brother Elwood were raised. (IMDb) John Landis directs from a screenplay he wrote with Dan Aykroyd, based on the Blues Brothers act Aykroyd and John Belushi created for Saturday Night Live. Universal Pictures released the film in June 1980, with Belushi as Jake Blues and Aykroyd as Elwood Blues. (Letterboxd)
Watches
- Timex watch
- Worn by John Belushi as Jake Blues. Julien's Auctions, consigning from the estate of property master Michael Milgrom, identifies a gold-tone Timex digital watch on an expansion band as most likely the one Jake is handed back with his personal effects on release from Joliet Correctional Center, and wears for the rest of the film. (Julien's Auctions) The film names the maker before the watch is even on his wrist: the property clerk reading out Jake's effects at his release, about five minutes in, lists one Timex watch, broken. (The Blues Brothers, dialogue at about 4:59)
- Mitron watch
- Worn by Dan Aykroyd as Elwood Blues. Julien's Auctions, consigning from the same Michael Milgrom estate as Jake's Timex, sold Elwood's watch as lot 469 of Icons & Idols 2012: Hollywood: "A Mitron digital watch with red face worn by Dan Aykroyd in The Blues Brothers (Universal, 1980). Gold tone bezel and expansion band, marked "Mitron" on reverse of face." The property master dressed the brothers as a pair: Elwood's red-LED digital in a gold-tone cushion case on a stretch bracelet is the twin of Jake's gold-tone Timex digital on the same kind of band, and a third lot from the estate, "An Elite digital watch with red face worn by an unknown cast member", shows the department stocked the look from more than one maker. Two film frames Julien's attached to the lot show the watch on Elwood's wrist, hat on; the essay names no model, so the identification stops at the name on the caseback. (Julien's Auctions; Julien's Auctions lot 465)
