François Truffaut directs this drama, set in Nazi-occupied Paris in 1942. Theatre director Marion Steiner, played by Catherine Deneuve, keeps her company running and conceals her Jewish husband, hidden in the theatre's cellar, while directing a new production with a leading man, played by Gérard Depardieu, who is active in the Resistance.
