The Lion King

Walt Disney Feature Animation's 1994 musical drama, directed by Roger Allers and Rob Minkoff, follows the lion cub Simba (voiced as a cub by Jonathan Taylor Thomas and as an adult by Matthew Broderick), exiled from the Pride Lands after his uncle Scar (Jeremy Irons) murders his father Mufasa (James Earl Jones) and drawn back as an adult to confront Scar and reclaim the throne. Drawing on Hamlet, with a voice cast that also includes Nathan Lane, Ernie Sabella, Whoopi Goldberg and Rowan Atkinson, it became the basis of the 1997 stage musical with music by Elton John and lyrics by Tim Rice.
