Walt Disney Feature Animation's animated musical fantasy film, written and directed by John Musker and Ron Clements and produced by Musker and Howard Ashman, who also wrote the film's songs with composer Alan Menken. Loosely based on Hans Christian Andersen's 1837 fairy tale "The Little Mermaid," the film follows teenage mermaid princess Ariel, who dreams of becoming human and falls in love with human prince Eric, leading her to strike a dangerous bargain with the sea witch Ursula.
