The Pink Phink

The Pink Phink is the seven-minute animated short that launched the Pink Panther as a character in his own right, after the big cat had appeared only in the title sequence of Blake Edwards' 1963 feature. A house painter works in blue; the Panther prefers pink, and repaints everything behind him. Friz Freleng and Hawley Pratt directed for DePatie-Freleng Enterprises, and the short won the Academy Award for Short Subject (Cartoon) at the 37th Academy Awards, with David H. DePatie and Freleng credited as producers. Its own poster bills it as the Panther's "new, hilarious, very own Cartoon Series". (IMDb; Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences)

Official product partnership — not an in-work appearance. Seiko built this Pink Panther limited edition on the SKX-derived 5 Sports case in April 2026, and takes its design from this short specifically rather than from the franchise: the dial and bezel carry the Panther's pink, the footprints that lead the Little Man to discover him run across the dial, the strap tip is printed "WET PAINT" as it appears in the animation, and the caseback shows him hiding against a freshly pink wall. The edition runs to 9,999 pieces, 999 of them in Japan, where it is sold as the SBSA321. Seiko's own pages carry no rights line, but MGM's credit appears on its press photography. (Seiko)
