A history professor and his wife, the college president's daughter, drag a young faculty couple through a drunken night of cruel games after a party. (Wikipedia) Mike Nichols made his directing debut with Ernest Lehman's adaptation of Edward Albee's play, casting Elizabeth Taylor as Martha, Richard Burton as George, George Segal as Nick and Sandy Dennis as Honey, the film's only four credited actors; Warner Bros. released it on June 21, 1966.
Watches
- Unidentified watch
- Worn by Richard Burton as George. Through the single night the film spans, George wears a simple dress watch on his left wrist: a small round case, a light-colored dial with raised metal semi-spheres at 12, 3, 6 and 9, and a dark leather strap, worn with the pilled gray cardigan he swaps for his sport jacket early in the evening. BAMF Style allows that it may have been one of Burton's own watches but rules out the 18-karat gold Patek Philippe Elizabeth Taylor gave him during Cleopatra, the watch his gold piece in The Sandpiper is read as; no maker is visible.
