Universal Pictures' musical fantasy, directed by Jon M. Chu and written by Winnie Holzman and Dana Fox, on-screen titled Wicked: Part I and adapting the first act of the 2003 stage musical by Stephen Schwartz and Holzman. Set in the Land of Oz before the events of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, it follows the early friendship between Elphaba Thropp, the future Wicked Witch of the West, and her schoolmate Galinda, who becomes Glinda the Good, as Elphaba's unusual green skin and burgeoning magical power set her apart at Shiz University. Released in the United States on November 22, 2024 and in Japan on March 7, 2025, it stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande.
