A chronicle of one woman's 1,100-mile solo hike undertaken as a way to recover from a recent personal tragedy. (IMDb) Directed by Jean-Marc Vallée from Nick Hornby's adaptation of Cheryl Strayed's 2012 memoir Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail, it premiered at Telluride on 29 August 2014 and opened in the United States that December. Reese Witherspoon plays Strayed on her 1995 walk from the Mojave Desert to Oregon's Bridge of the Gods, with Laura Dern as her late mother Bobbi and Thomas Sadoski, Michiel Huisman, and Gaby Hoffmann in support; Witherspoon and Dern were both nominated for Academy Awards.
