Zola is Janicza Bravo's 2020 black comedy for A24, co-written with Jeremy O. Harris from A'Ziah "Zola" King's viral 2015 Twitter thread, in which a Detroit waitress and part-time dancer (Taylour Paige) is talked by a new friend, Stefani (Riley Keough), into a weekend of dancing in Tampa that turns into a trafficking ordeal run by Stefani's pimp, X (Colman Domingo), with Stefani's boyfriend Derrek (Nicholas Braun) in tow. Mr Porter's survey of A24 costume design singles out "the flashy yellow-gold Rolex with a diamond-set bezel" on X, "a sartorial summation of everything that Domingo's character strives for", beside the mauve suit and loud shirt costume designer Derica Cole Washington dressed him in.
