(IMDb) Created by Simon Fuller as an American adaptation of the British format Pop Idol, the singing competition premiered on Fox on 11 June 2002, pairing a performance night with a viewer-voted results show to accommodate multiple time zones. Ryan Seacrest hosted, initially alongside Brian Dunkleman, before a panel of Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell; the series ran fifteen seasons on Fox through April 2016 and was revived by ABC in March 2018 with judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie.
