Kosuke Gunji, once the ace of the First Investigative Division, was stabbed and left wheelchair-bound three years earlier by serial killer Ryuichi Magaino, and sidelined to a suburban precinct; when a new murder bears Magaino's signature, Gunji is recalled to the case and paired with Karu Akutsu, an autistic financial investigator with a photographic memory.
