Game of Thrones is the HBO fantasy drama David Benioff and D. B. Weiss created from George R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire novels, following the noble houses of Westeros as they contend for the Iron Throne, the exiled Targaryen heir Daenerys and her three dragons, and the Night's Watch on the realm's northern border. Sean Bean, Emilia Clarke, Kit Harington, Peter Dinklage and Lena Headey led its ensemble across 73 episodes and eight seasons from April 17, 2011 to May 19, 2019; the prequel House of the Dragon followed in 2022.
