Konami's long-running gothic action-platformer series, begun with Castlevania for the Famicom Disk System and NES in 1986 and continuing across numbered entries, spin-offs, and the Metroidvania-defining Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. The Belmont clan and their allies wield the whip Vampire Killer against Dracula and his forces across a fictional chronology spanning the eleventh through twenty-first centuries, with recurring characters including Simon Belmont, Richter Belmont, and the dhampir Alucard, Dracula's son.
