Metal Gear Solid is Hideo Kojima's 1998 stealth-action game for the PlayStation, developed by Konami Computer Entertainment Japan and the game that established the tactical espionage action genre in 3D. Solid Snake infiltrates the nuclear disposal facility Shadow Moses Island to stop the rogue special forces unit FOXHOUND, led by his genetic twin Liquid Snake, from launching the bipedal nuclear weapon Metal Gear REX, staying in Codec radio contact with Colonel Roy Campbell and support staff throughout the mission. Its emphasis on cinematic cutscenes, environmental stealth, and boss encounters that broke the fourth wall made it a defining PlayStation-era release and launched the long-running Metal Gear series.
