The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Lady brought Gerald Genta's 1972 octagonal-bezel design to a female clientele in 1976, four years after the men's original. Designer Jacqueline Dimier scaled the case to 29 mm and specified the automatic Calibre 2062, a movement just 15.4 mm across, to fit it; the launch, held in Paris at the Fred jewelry boutique rather than the Basel fair, offered the watch in steel alone, an unusual choice when women's luxury watches were normally sold in gold or platinum.
