Baume & Mercier Hampton
More actions
The Baume & Mercier Hampton is the rectangular line the Geneva maker launched in 1994, and the design it leans on whenever it wants to look like the 1920s rather than like a sports watch: a squared case with softly stepped, chamfered flanks, a slightly domed crystal, and Arabic numerals at twelve and six with slim applied batons between them. The proportions run long rather than wide, which is what separates it visually from Cartier's Tank, whose brancards run into the strap instead of stopping at a bezel. (Baume & Mercier) The line has been deliberately kept broad, sold in quartz and automatic and in sizes from small ladies' cases through the 34 mm Hampton Classic Automatic and the wide Hampton Milleis, so the name identifies a shape and a period reference rather than a movement or a size.
