The Bulova 96B169 is a men's quartz three-hander from Bulova's Classic collection, and about as unassuming as a watch can be: a 43 mm steel case on a matching bracelet, a fixed bezel with exposed screw heads, and a two-tone dial with applied baton markers, a red-tipped seconds hand and a date at 3 (NY Watch Store). The reference matters chronologically as much as horologically. Fox Mulder wears it in The X-Files, but the 96B169 is a 2010s catalogue number that did not exist during the original 1993–2002 run, so the watch can only be from the 2016 revival. It is also a Citizen-era Bulova: Citizen bought the company in January 2008, so the old American name here sits under Japanese ownership. (JCK)
