The Bvlgari Bvlgari is the watch that made the Roman jeweller a watchmaker, launched in 1977 from a design by Gérald Genta as a limited run of 100 pieces given to clients before demand turned it into a production model. Its whole idea sits on the bezel: the maker's name engraved twice, on either side of the dial, in the Roman capitals Bulgari took from the inscriptions on the Arch of Constantine, with a stepped round case built to frame that lettering. Genta had drawn the Royal Oak and the Nautilus in the preceding five years, and the Bvlgari Bvlgari is the third of the sequence in which he made an exposed piece of case furniture the identity of the watch.
