Cartier Tank Chinoise
Photo: Mr Watchley
The Cartier Tank Chinoise is a 1922 variation on the Tank, its lugs widened into two overlapping bars flanking the case, a flourish Cartier's designers drew from the architectural lines of a Chinese temple portico amid the 1920s vogue for Far Eastern decorative motifs. (Phillips) Cartier revived the design only once, in limited numbers between 2004 and 2008 as part of the Collection Privée Cartier Paris (CPCP), casing it in platinum and pink gold across a handful of references with manual-wind, Piaget-based movements; the line sold out and has not returned since.
