Citizen Solar 4110
More actions
The Citizen Solar 4110 is a light-powered analogue quartz watch built on Citizen's calibre 4110, a Japanese solar movement of 11½ lignes (roughly 25.9 mm across) driving three hands and a calendar indication. A photovoltaic cell behind the dial turns light into electricity and stores it in a rechargeable cell, so the watch runs without the routine battery changes an ordinary quartz movement demands. It descends from the line Citizen opened in 1976 with the Crystron Solar Cell, the first solar-powered analogue quartz wristwatch, and which the company later gathered under the Eco-Drive name. It matters as a working example of the solar analogue quartz Citizen pioneered and still builds its identity on. (Ranfft DB; Fratello)
