The Garmin Foretrex 401 is a wrist-strapped GPS navigator rather than a smartwatch — a small monochrome-LCD unit worn on the forearm to keep both hands free, long favoured by hikers and military users. It combines a high-sensitivity GPS receiver with HotFix satellite prediction, an electronic compass and a barometric altimeter, and stores up to 500 waypoints, 20 routes and a 10,000-point track log, with a TracBack feature that retraces the outbound path. The 100-by-64-pixel display shows headings, a trip computer and sunrise/sunset and hunting-and-fishing tables rather than apps or notifications.
