The Garmin fenix 5 is the compact 47 mm model at the centre of Garmin's 2017 multisport GPS line, shown at CES that January and on sale by spring. This reference (010-01688-00) is the base Slate Gray edition; the family also spanned the 42 mm 5S and the 51 mm 5X, the last adding preloaded TOPO US mapping. All carried Garmin's Elevate wrist heart-rate sensor, GPS and GLONASS reception, a three-axis compass, gyroscope and barometric altimeter, plus tool-free QuickFit bands, with roughly two weeks of smartwatch battery and 24 hours in GPS mode. Sapphire versions added a scratch-resistant lens and Wi-Fi upload. It predates the fenix 6's PacePro pacing and solar charging, remaining a purely GPS-and-sensors instrument. (Garmin)
