A Gruen watch is a watch from the Gruen Watch Company of Cincinnati and its predecessors, founded by Dietrich Gruen as D. Gruen & Son in 1894. Its movements, made in Switzerland from about 1922 at its Precision Factory in Biel/Bienne, were adjusted, dialled and cased in the United States; the VeriThin movement of 1904 and the Curvex of 1935 made its name. (Wikipedia) Three books name only the maker: Anne Macmurray's thin little Gruen in Dewey Defeats Truman, the dead lieutenant's Gruen Ray Duval wears through the war in Wisdom of the Bones, and the late Em's Gruen her widower wears in Sightlines. The photograph shows a VeriThin of about 1940.
