Hamilton Piping Rock
More actions
The Hamilton Piping Rock is the Lancaster maker's flagship dress watch of the late 1920s, introduced in 1928 and named for the Piping Rock Club on Long Island's Gold Coast. Its signature is a tonneau case framing a round dial inside a black enamel bezel that carries the Roman numerals, with flexible articulated lugs and, in the original run, a solid 14-karat gold case over the 19-jewel calibre 979, in production through 1935. (Hamilton Chronicles) On Opening Day 1929 Yankees owner Jacob Ruppert presented engraved Piping Rocks to the 1928 World Series champions, Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig among them; Gehrig's later brought $340,000 at auction. (Vintage Hamilton Wristwatches) For Oppenheimer (2023), Hamilton sourced a 1920s example for Matt Damon's Leslie Groves. (ATimelyPerspective)
