Oris Big Crown
The Oris Big Crown takes its name from the oversized, deeply knurled winding crown Oris first fitted in 1938 so pilots could set and wind the watch without removing their gloves in an unheated cockpit. That original Pointer Date, a round steel case with luminous Arabic numerals and a central hand pointing to a printed date scale, was the brand's first dedicated aviator's watch and has stayed in production in close to its original form ever since. (Sharp) The name has since spread across a wider family, from the modern instrument-styled ProPilot to the day-date BC3, all keeping the outsized crown as the line's identifying signature.
