The Rolex Daytona 16520 is the reference that took the Cosmograph Daytona automatic, growing the case to 40 mm and fitting a Zenith El Primero-based movement that Rolex reworked and slowed to its own beat, catalogued internally as the calibre 4030. Built from 1988 to 2000, it carries an engraved steel tachymeter bezel and came with either a white "panda" dial or the black dial with white subdial surrounds shown here. Persistent waiting lists during its run made the "Zenith Daytona" the watch that first turned the steel Cosmograph into an object of pursuit rather than a stocked catalogue piece. (Bob's Watches)
