The Rolex Daytona 6239 is the first Cosmograph Daytona, introduced in 1963: a 37 mm steel chronograph on the hand-wound, Valjoux-based calibre 722, its tachymeter engraved on a steel bezel where the later 6263 carries an acrylic insert and screw-down pushers. Standard dials are black or silver with contrasting registers; the "exotic" dials are the "Paul Newman" Daytonas. (Bob's Watches) Jerry Seinfeld's black-dial 1968 example was Vic Elford's prize for winning that year's 24 Hours of Daytona in a Porsche 907; Seinfeld bought the car first and the watch years later, then had Ben Clymer help restore it with era-correct parts.
