The Rolex Explorer II 16570 is the second generation of Rolex's dedicated caver-and-spelunker tool watch, a 40 mm steel case with the fixed, black-inlay 24-hour bezel and orange GMT hand carried over from the original 1655. Rolex offered it with a black dial or the whiter, cream-toned dial collectors nicknamed "Polar" for the stark contrast it drew against the black bezel and orange hand; the two are the same reference, distinguished only by dial. Production ran from 1989 to 2011, first on the automatic calibre 3185 and later the upgraded 3186, before the enlarged 42 mm reference 216570 took over the line. (aBlogtoWatch)
