Rolex GMT-Master II 16760
More actions
The Rolex GMT-Master II 16760, nicknamed the "Fat Lady" (and, more flatteringly, the "Sophia Loren") for the thicker case its new movement demanded, was the first watch in the GMT-Master II line, produced from 1983 to 1988. Its caliber 3085 let the center hour hand jump independently in one-hour increments without disturbing the 24-hour GMT hand, minute hand, or running seconds, turning the original GMT-Master's dual-time display into a genuine three-timezone tool the way the rotating bezel and the independent local hour hand could now be read together. The heavier movement pushed Rolex to widen the bezel and enlarge the winding crown, giving the 16760 more generous proportions than the slimmer 16710 that eventually replaced it, and it was built exclusively with the red-and-black "Coke" bezel insert, the only color combination Rolex ever paired with this reference.
