The Rotary GS02424/21 is a 38 mm stainless-steel quartz dress watch that Rotary sells under the name Heritage 'Sherlock', and the borrowed title is the brand's own doing: its product page introduces the reference as "An iconic design, featured in the hit BBC show 'Sherlock'." The silver dial is worked in clous de Paris, the hobnail guilloché of tiny pyramids that throws light without competing with the Roman numerals laid over it, and it is read by black Breguet hands above a running seconds sub-dial, on thin wire lugs, at £149. Almost every cue is a nineteenth-century quotation carried by a battery, which is why it suits a modern-dress Victorian detective in Sherlock (2010) better than a period piece would (Rotary).
