The Seiko 6159 Professional Diver launched in Japan in May 1968 as the 6159-7000, the world's first dive watch built around a Hi-Beat 36,000 vph movement, caliber 6159A, adapted from the automatic Seiko had developed for its early Grand Seiko line. Housed in Seiko's first monocoque diver case with a screw-down crown and rated to 300 metres, it was superseded within a year by the visually similar 6159-7001, and by the mid-1970s the line's flagship became the 600 m 6159-7010/7011, cased in titanium and nicknamed the "Grandfather Tuna." No single reference covers the family's full run. (Fratello, Hairspring)
