The Cartier Roadster is the sporty Cartier of the 2000s, made from 2001 to about 2013, its curved tonneau case and bulging domed crystal styled after a car — the name and the dashboard-like dial with its rail-track minutes are deliberately automotive. It came in quartz and automatic, on steel bracelets or straps that swapped through Cartier's own quick-change system, in a larger, more masculine register than the dressier Tank or Santos. It was Cartier reaching for the everyday luxury-sports buyer, recognisably a Cartier but built to be worn hard, which is the exact middle-market status object a Sopranos character would pick — a name brand, worn without ceremony.
