Watches

Hamilton Khaki Field Murph
Worn by Jessica Chastain as Murphy "Murph" Cooper. The watch that receives the film's climactic message. On screen it is a prop Hamilton built for the production; the Khaki Field Murph is the catalogue model Hamilton released in 2019 to reproduce it. The retail watch added "EUREKA" in Morse code to its seconds hand; that detail was absent from the film prop. (Fratello) Hodinkee's column describes the prop as a Hamilton custom-made for the film and absent from the catalogue until five years later, a Khaki with patinated numerals and cathedral-style hands, no date, on a leather strap, and times the close-up of both Hamiltons in Cooper's hands at 00:39:24 as he pulls it from his jacket pocket. (Hodinkee) Prop master Ritchie Kremer told Hodinkee how it was built: the design took the parts of three different watches, a word like "magnetic" printed on the dial was removed at his request because of the film's tesseract plot, Hamilton sent prototypes from Switzerland until Nolan approved one, and ten fully working watches were ordered. For the ticking that carries the film's message Kremer's crew stripped a watch and ran a cable to what he thinks was the minute hand through a hole drilled in the bookshelf, an automated rig having failed, and Nolan operated it himself; no photograph of the early prototypes survives at either Kremer or Hamilton. (Hodinkee) Time+Tide adds that the production Murph "was highly modified so that production could remotely trigger" its seconds hand for the message scene, and Revolution records the five years of collector demand before the 2019 release. (Time+Tide; Revolution) Hamilton's product page for H70605731 carries the credit for Murph. (Hamilton; archived 2026)
Hamilton Khaki Field Murph
Worn by Mackenzie Foy as Murphy "Murph" Cooper. The same prop watch reaches Murph as a child. Hodinkee times the handover at 00:39:24: shortly before Cooper tells Murph how long he will be gone, he takes off his own watch and pulls the second Hamilton from the pocket of his Carhartt jacket, the camera closing on both in his hands. (Hodinkee) Prop master Ritchie Kremer, who names Mackenzie Foy, Jessica Chastain and Ellen Burstyn as the three actors who play Murph, told Hodinkee that this scene is why he ordered ten watches from Hamilton: "she threw a bunch of the watches", fifteen or twenty times in the argument with her father, and three or four were lost. The watch is the production prop that the 2019 Khaki Field Murph reproduces, as in the adult Murph's row above. (Hodinkee)

Hamilton Khaki Field Murph 38mm
Official product partnership, not an in-work appearance. Hamilton followed the 2019 Khaki Field Murph, its production reproduction of Murph's screen prop, with this 38mm version in 2022; it keeps the jet-black dial and beige numerals but not the Morse-code "EUREKA" seconds hand. (Hamilton; Monochrome) Monochrome's hands-on gives the reference H70405730 and a launch price of EUR 945. Fratello, reporting the same release, adds that "The prop watch in the movie did not feature it, so you could argue this is more faithful to the original", and Time+Tide likewise records the 42mm's Morse code as "not on the film watch". Hamilton Khaki Field Murph 38mm Blue
Official product partnership, not an in-work appearance. Hamilton added this deep blue, grain-textured dial to the Khaki Field Murph 38mm in 2026, styled after the ionized-gas trail of an interstellar comet; it keeps the 38mm Murph's cathedral hands and curved numerals. (Hamilton; Monochrome) Monochrome lists the references H70405140 on the steel bracelet and H70405740 on the leather strap, at EUR 1,045 and EUR 995. (Monochrome)

Hamilton Khaki Pilot Day Date
Worn by Matthew McConaughey as Joseph Cooper. Cooper wears a Hamilton Khaki Pilot Day Date, ref. H64615135, on a steel bracelet. Hamilton identifies the reference with McConaughey's role, and prop master Ritchie Kremer describes choosing it from the catalog for the former NASA pilot. It was an existing production watch; Hamilton made Murph's watch separately for the film. (Hamilton; Hodinkee) The 42mm steel case has a black dial, raised Flieger-style numerals, the day below twelve and the date above six. Hodinkee's photograph of the screen watch's open caseback identifies its ETA 2834-2 movement; Hamilton's current retail specification lists the later H-40. (Hodinkee; Hamilton) Hodinkee times the close-up of both watches in Cooper's hands at 00:39:24, before he leaves Murph, and a shot of him winding his watch at 01:02:06. (Hodinkee)
Hamilton ODC X-03
Official product partnership, not an in-work appearance. Hamilton's 2016 ODC X-03, 999 pieces, was designed with the film's production designer Nathan Crowley as a tribute to Hamilton's work on this film and on 2001: A Space Odyssey. (aBlogtoWatch)
