Rolex Cellini
More actions
The Rolex Cellini is Rolex's dress line outside the Oyster case, named in 1968 for the Renaissance goldsmith whose autobiography records his murders as proudly as his metalwork. For most of its life it was everything the Oyster was not: precious metal only, frequently hand-wound, thinly cased, in tonneau, cushion and rectangular forms that changed with fashion. The 1970s generation photographed here (reference 4322, yellow gold, champagne dial, gold mesh bracelet) is representative; the line was relaunched as a round automatic in 2014 and retired when the Perpetual 1908 replaced it. No single reference covers its screen record: Wagner Moura's Escobar wears a gold cushion-form example on a black strap through Narcos, but the frames stop short of branding and published references disagree.
