Frankie Howerd (6 March 1917 – 19 April 1992) was an English comedian and actor whose innuendo-laced, audience-needling style, built on catchphrases such as "titter ye not," carried a career of repeated comebacks from wartime radio through several Carry On films to his signature role as the scheming slave Lurcio in the television and film versions of Up Pompeii!
