Sid James (1913-1976) was a South African-born British actor and comedian known for his gravelly, cackling laugh. He rose to fame as Tony Hancock's co-star in the radio and television series Hancock's Half Hour (1954-1960), then became a cornerstone of the Carry On film series, appearing in 19 entries between 1960 and 1974. He also starred in the television sitcom Bless This House (1971-1976) and died on stage in 1976 while performing in The Mating Season. (Wikipedia)
