Gainax's six-episode original video animation, directed by Hideaki Anno from a script by Toshio Okada and Hiroyuki Yamaga and released on video by Bandai in three two-episode volumes from 7 October 1988 to 7 July 1989, follows Noriko Takaya, the daughter of a lost space-fleet admiral, from the Okinawa pilot school through her training under Coach Koichiro Ohta alongside Kazumi Amano and the Soviet prodigy Jung Freud to the relativistic war against the space monsters aboard the Exelion and the giant robot Gunbuster. - Heuer (unidentified model)
- A fictional device carrying a real brand: in episode 2, "Daring! The Genius Girl's Challenge!!" ("不敵!天才少女の挑戦!!", 7 October 1988), Kazumi starts a ten-minute training exercise with Noriko under Coach Ohta's eye, and the insert that follows her hand on the simulator panel fills the frame with the timer on her pink-cuffed wrist: a round screw-fixed steel case on a flat-link bracelet, a digital readout counting from 10:00:00, a row of red arrowhead markers, a "200 METERS" legend, a small blue dial and a red pie gauge, with Heuer's red shield lettered HEUER at 12 o'clock. No Heuer product matches the drawing, which makes it a countdown instrument invented for the story under the mark Heuer used until the 1985 TAG takeover, so the unidentified-model page carries it; the frame fixes the brand and the wearer, and a WatchUSeek member posted the same capture without naming the episode.
