Lupin the Third: Missed by a Dollar (2000)

The twelfth Lupin the Third TV special, directed by Hideki Tonokatsu for TMS Entertainment and aired on Nippon TV in July 2000 as 1$ Money Wars. Lupin is outbid at a New York auction by a single dollar, pulling the gang into a fight over a ring that leads to a conquerors' brooch; it was the last Lupin production animated traditionally on cels, and Funimation released it in English as Missed by a Dollar. Breguet Classique 3137: Lupin's dress watch gets a full-frame cel close-up drawn in unusual detail: a yellow-gold coin-edge case on a gold mesh bracelet, white dial with Roman numerals, a fan-shaped power-reserve indicator at 10, a moonphase, and a subsidiary date ring at 6 — the complication suite of the Breguet Classique 3137. Two independent Japanese watch analyses converge on the identification: a pawnshop specialist names ref. 3137 from the frame, and a Lupin watch survey identifies the same Classique power-reserve moonphase in this special. The drawn mesh bracelet differs from the leather straps and Breguet-link bracelets of the real executions, and no branding is legible, so it stays a real-adjacent identification — a fittingly aristocratic choice for a gentleman thief whose franchise later formalized its watch culture in the Zenith collaborations.
